This 45 second scene is one of cinema’s most recognizable scenes of all time. For a very short scene, it took 7 days to shoot. The murder scene shocked audiences with the manner of how the lead female character died about a third into the movie. The queasy, voyeuristic intensity of the scene still takes many by surprise, no matter how many times it is watched. They used chocolate syrup for the blood and since it was shot in black and white, it made filming the scene more pleasant and the draining of the blood less repulsive for viewers as compared if the movie was done in color.
